A family of four moved to Mercer Island last week.
The family, which relocated from out of state, moved to the area because the husband has taken a junior executive job at a large tech company. The husband is looking forward to running half-marathons and would be training for a triathlon if his work schedule wasn’t so crazy.
The wife has a graduate degree but stopped working outside the home when their second child was born. She plans to do volunteer work at the elementary school that her oldest child is attending and become active in the Mercer Island Preschool Association. She also intends to start blogging about her experiences as a stay-at-home mother adjusting to life in the Seattle suburbs. Rumors that she is pregnant with their third child are unconfirmed.
They have a Labradoodle named Rex.
The family moved into a 4000 sq. ft. home that was recently built by JayMarc Homes. The lot on which the home stands was previously occupied by a 1500 sq. ft. mid-century modern home whose long-time residents were a retired Boeing engineer and his wife. That couple has since moved to California or Colorado to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Reached by telephone, the family indicated that they moved to Mercer Island “for the schools.”
You will find the family waiting in the Starbucks drive-through line in their late-model, luxury SUV or watching their kids play in Mercerdale Park. You can’t miss them: The husband sports a Van Dyke that he mistakenly refers to as a “goatee” and a sweatshirt featuring the logo of the college he attended; the wife has blond hair (probably natural, experts say) and wears yoga-inspired clothing.
When you see them, please say hello and give them a warm Mercer Island welcome!
